Default black & Decker miter saw 1701

Sometimes the saw will turn on and sometimes not. Is it the switch or the brushes? How can you tell if you have bad brushes?

    Hi Doneye,

We've got a great article dealing with this question. Your saw should behave differently depending on whether it's a brush problem or a switch problem, and it shows you how to figure out which one it is.

    You can find it here:

Tool Diagnosis: Is it the Brushes or the Switch?

Since your saw is starting up intermittently it could be either one, but there are some details you can look at to identify the problem. Does the saw run just fine once you manage to get it started? Do you hear any banging sounds coming from the motor while it is running?
